We are nearing the end of cycle 3 and closing in on Spring Break!

Please take note of the events and assignments that are closing out the cycle over the next two weeks.

Cycle 3, Week 9 (A Week), March 3 - 9

  • GISD Jazzfest Day 1 (High School Ensembles) from 4pm-7:30pm

  • GISD Jazzfest Day 2 (Middle School Ensembles and Faculty Jazz Performance) from 8:00am-8:00pm

Supplies

Please make sure you bring concert snare sticks and a practice pad to band class every day.

1 box of tissues per student is requested. One has observed this request, many more have used the tissues.

Spring Break Band Trip Meeting - Monday, March 3 from 6:30-7:00

There will be a meeting to go over our upcoming band trip. This meeting is considered mandatory for all attendees of the trip.

GISD Jazzfest Hosting

Our school is hosting Jazzfest this upcoming Friday and Saturday. All GISD High Schools and Middle Schools will have their jazz bands participate in this event.

This event will only require the assistance of our band leaders and any volunteers. Percussionists will be primarily responsible to assist with percussion needs for each group and audio reinforcement for each group (sound). Students will be able to work in shifts if enough students are available to help with the event. Please let Mr. Collins know if you are interested in volunteering for a portion of the festival. If a member of our Band Leadership Team has a conflict with this event, please contact Mr. Collins as soon as possible.

Concert Band Rehearsals This Week and Spring Band Concert Next Week

Wind Ensemble will rehearse on Monday and Thursday from 3:30-5:30. Symphonic Band will meet on Tuesday from 3:30-5:30. Please continue to stay aware of communications from Mr. Falls and Mr. Choi for rehearsal plans.

Next week we will have our Spring Band Concert on Wednesday, March 12 at 7:00pm. This will include a performance of our UIL selections and possibly some chamber ensembles, including our percussion ensemble music.

• Pass Off 10 due Monday - minor grade

• Pass Off 11 due Friday - minor grade

• Pass Off 12 due Monday, March 10 - minor grade

• Cumulative Cycle 3 Pass Off Grade (all 12 pass offs must be complete) due Wednesday, March 12 - major grade

• Cycle 3 Solo Performances due week of March 10-14 - major grade
