Percussion: Week of December 9 - 15

It’s Winter Concert Season!

This week we will have our Winter concert on Wednesday. We will also be hosting Webb and Sellers for their concerts on Tuesday and Thursday. Our Fine Arts Showcase is on Friday.

We will have rehearsals to prepare for these performances and a percussion ensemble rehearsal on Wednesday. Below is the weekly overview for the upcoming week.

Cycle 2, Week 6 (A Week) Dec. 2-8

• Monday

  • Wind Ensemble from 3:30-4:00 - Full Band ending early due to All-Region Phase 2

• Tuesday

  • Symphonic Band from 3:30-5:00 - Full Band in Band Hall

  • Sellers Band Concert - Call time for helpers is 5:15, Concert will be from 7-8.

• Wednesday

  • Percussion Ensemble Rehearsal from 3:30 - 5:00

    • Sacrificial Rite from 3:30-4:15

    • Watercolor Sun from 4:15-5:00

  • Winter Concert at Naaman Forest - Call time is 5:30, Concert will start at 7.

  • Jazz Ensemble Rehearsal is Canceled

• Thursday

  • Fine Arts Showcase Dry Run - Time TBD

  • Webb Band Concert - Call time for helpers is 5:15, Concert will be from 7-8.

• Friday (B Day)

  • Free

Supplies

With the shift in class routines, please make sure you begin to bring concert snare sticks and a practice pad to band class every day.

1 box of tissues are also requested as we transition to colder winter months.

Drumline Jersey Order - Payments are now past due

Please make payments for jerseys this week. Pay for as much as you can when you can, at least one payment each month.

Please make payments for jersey’s through the following process:

1) Each jersey is $55.

2) Provide payments to the band boosters. Click HERE for instructions and different payment options.

3) If paying digitally, include a note that the payment is for jerseys and the student’s name. Send a screenshot with the payment confirmation to ncollins@garlandisd.net

4) Please pay for what you can as soon as you can. All jerseys should have been paid in full by Friday, November 22. Thank you to those who have met this deadline!

Percussion Ensemble Rehearsal Details

We have music and parts to 2 of our spring percussion ensemble selections. These will be the pieces we perform in contest at the North Texas Percussion Festival in February.

Watercolor Sun by Ivan Trevino - Kathy, Rolando, Madison, Haley

Sacrificial Rite by David Gillingham - Aidan, Joshua, Fabian, Eduardo, and Malenah

There will be another 2-4 selections. All students will have parts on at least 2 ensembles.

We have 2 on-campus percussion ensemble concerts (Feb. 21 and April 25), and competitive festival performances at the North Texas Percussion Festival (Feb. 22) and North Garland Percussion Festival (April 26)

After-school rehearsals during the fall semester will be on 11/19, 12/11, and 12/18. Rehearsals in the spring will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Students only need to be present for their portion of rehearsal.

Upcoming Assignments, Grades, Band Placement Auditions and “Winter Concert Series”

• Band Placement Auditions will be held Monday, December 16. Students will perform sections from the semester solos. This is a major grade.

• The “Winter Concert Series” is when all students will perform their semester solos for the class. This is part of the final exam and is a major grade. Students will perform in the last two classes of the semester, the week of December 16.
